January 2021 - Nearshore

As expected January Nearshore bite has been red hot. When the weather allows the neashore bite has been producing a great mix of table fare. The ledges and wrecks  have been holding very nice sheepshead, lanes, mangrove snappers, groupers and grunts. Nothing fancy here, 3/4 oz - 1oz lead to a 1/0 circle hook with a shrimp to the bottom has been working best. Lighter leader for the bigger snappers. Breaking off a few fish does happen this way but it produces way more bites. Loading up on white bait and chumming fish to the top has worked well when the snapper are present.

Windy weather days we stay inshore and focus on deep cuts around mangroves. Pass docks for sheepshead and redfish. 1/4 Jighead with a shrimp tail hooked works well this time of year.

When heading out/In from nearshore the crab buoys have been holding nice triple tail. One of my favorite to eat. Pitch a shrimp up current and let it drift towards the buoy and alot of times you can watch the whole scenario play out.
